R.I.P Rev. Jasson Kempanju

The Saturday 21st of September, 2024 with heavy hearts the NWD received sad and heartbreaking news of the passing away of the retied pastor Reverend Jasson Kempanju.

Rev Jasson Kempanju passed away at around 3.00 pm at the age of 85 years in his home village Bunyaga, Katare.

Rev Jasson Kempanju was born on 24th October, 1939 in the Village and Lutheran parish of Katare. Studied at Katare Primary School, Lyamahoro Middle School, Butimba Teachers College, Singapole and Seattle Washington in the USA.

In the first place, Jasson Kempanju served as a teacher in public schools and then at Iluhya Church owned school by then.

He felt the calling and joined the Makumira Lutheran Theological College in 1972 where he pursued his diploma in theology after four years he then proceeded with pastoral internship in parishes before his ordination on 23rd May, 1976.

Rev Jasson Kempanju served parishes of Mushabago, Cathedral, Rwantege, Rubare and Kikomero. He also served as a teacher at Ruhija Evangelical Academy and head of Magharibi and Kusini A deaneries until the year 2004 when he officially retired the office work.

Rev Jasson Kempanju was married to his wife Anastazia Kokuleba in 1964 and they were blessed with seven kids (two boys and five girls)

The funeral was conducted on 24th September, 2024 and the service was attended by more than sixty pastors and other mourners. It was led by Dean Prof. Josephat Rweyemamu.

On behalf of the North Western Diocese, Bishop Dr. Abednego Keshomshahara sent deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and relatives of Rev Jasson Kempanju, and indeed all stakeholders in the NWD.

May God the Almighty grant each one of us grace and fortitude as we mourn and come to terms with the passing away of Rev Jasson Kempanju who was poor diocesan humble hero and icon of pastoral ministry in our diocese through the years.
