The Youth Exchange Programme Resumes

The NWD have had a youth exchange Programme with the Lutheran Church of Sweden. This programme which had existed for over twenty years was stopped due to Covid 19 pandemic. Since 2020 the activities related to youth exchange were adjourned until further notice.

In June 2024 the General Secretary Rev. Dr Elmereck Kigembe and the diocesan youth coordinator Rev. Jonathan Ntwale travelled to Sweden, among other things they held a meeting with leadership of Church of Sweden on how to resume youth exchange programme activities. They finally deliberated to revisit the previous terms and resume the exchange of youth.

On 6th September, 2024 the first group of exchange participants from Sweden arrived in Bukoba. Their names are Magdalene, Naomi, Jonathan and Adam. On 9th September they started a one week orientation, after which they will be placed in congregation specifically host families.

As per terms of the same exchange programme, the NWD receives four Swedish young people every year, they stay here for three months and go back. The NWD also sends four young people to Sweden, they stay in congregations in host families for three months and come back.

The aim of that exchange is to learn from each other for the sake of strengthening each other. Out of this program, congregation to congregation partnership has started on both sides. We thank God for the gift of partnership between churches
