TELCU Welcomes Newly Ordained Pastor in Kamwenge, Uganda

A delegation of pastors, sisters, choir members and other church workers from the ELCT North Western Diocese (DKMG), together with a representative from ELCT Headquarters and pastors from the Karagwe Diocese, led by Bishop Dr. Abednego Keshomshahara, participated in the ordination service of Rev. Mugisha Samweli Mathayo as a pastor of Tumaini Evangelical Lutheran Church in Uganda (TELCU).

The ordination service was held on August 16, 2026, at Mpanga Parish in Kamwenge District, Uganda. TELCU is a mission church nurtured by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) under the oversight of DKMG and the leadership of Missionary Pastor Dr. Paschal Matungwa from DKMG.

Rev. Mugisha completed his theological studies at Nyakato College in Mwanza with support from ELCT and DKMG. During the service, he was encouraged to serve with faithfulness, humility, integrity and dedication.

Bishop Dr. Keshomshahara reminded him that pastoral ministry is not an ordinary job but a divine calling that requires prayer, commitment and care for Christ’s flock. ELCT Deputy General Secretary for Mission and Evangelism, Rev. Godfrey Walalaze, urged him to uphold the Church’s principles, procedures and ethical standards.

Preaching during the service, Rev. Diocres Mashongole encouraged Rev. Mugisha to proclaim the Gospel faithfully, uphold sound Christian teaching and serve all people without discrimination.

Following his ordination, Rev. Mugisha Samweli Mathayo married Ms. Astedy Samweli in a ceremony that formed part of the day’s celebrations.

The occasion marked an important step in strengthening the ministry and mission of TELCU in Kamwenge and other areas of Uganda.
