Mission and Evangelism Department.
In obedience of our Lord’s commandment: “Go therefore, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples…” Mathew 28: 19; the North western diocese established the Mission and Evangelism Department. The department is geared towards creating a holistically transformed community by God’s mission. Hence, the department is committed to the provision of spiritual resources to the community through Evangelism, Literature & communication and Diaconic work.
Her activities are thus geared towards ensuring that the NWD has qualified and sufficient ministers, evangelists and volunteers to labor for the gospel. To enhance ecumenism, cooperation and the use of media as well as enhancing the North Western Publishers in ensuring that the gospel reaches even the unreached. Her activities also include touching the lives of the challenged and disabled through her Diaconic institutions.
To make the ministry a success, the Departmental Secretary is assisted by eight District pastors in organizing open air meetings and identifying the would be candidates for the evangelistic work. Those are: Rev. Dishon Rugumira [Eastern District], Rev Brighton Kahigi [Central District]; Rev. Jonathan Hamurungi [Western District]; Rev. Wilson Ilamulila [Northern A] and Rev. Mathias Buberwa [Northern B ]. The others are The Rev. Jackson Mushendwa [Southern C]; Rev. Phenias Lwakatare [Southern B] and Rev Jackson Rugayana [Southern A]
Mission and Evangelism department is the biggest of all. The 49 parish pastors and more than 250 evangelists work hand in hand with the coordinator and district pastors while the rest of the diocesan staff and congregants, all works in obedience to our Lord’s command.
For about three decades the NWD, in collaboration with NED, commissioned by the ELCT, have worked tirelessly in the Mission Area in Kigoma. Here to fore, The Rev Musanisa is serving in Kibondo parish and the ministry is growing as many are being evangelized.
1. Evangelism among the youth and children is one of our challenges because the Christian population is growing tremendously.
2. As the church is rapidly growing there is always a great need to start up new congregations and parishes, hence the infrastructure so as to meet the need.
The Rev Lermy T. Lwankomezi, Dean of Bukoba and Assistant to the Bishop, is the departmental Secretary and coordinator.
